In via short drop, we lowered the gavel ropes down the Gavel pot entrance and left it rigged (Arlan rigging) for those who wanted an earlier exit. Progress through short drop was steady, there's a real low wet bit, but that can be avoided by a tight bit, though not ideal with tackle.
The rest of the cave was fine streamways, I forget just how big some of the passages are in this cave. There was a moment we thought the famous boulder bridge had collapsed but it was there around the corner, yay. We geared up and dropped the short pitch, it's possible by rigging the y-hang to the right to avoid it dropping down into the waterfall. I managed to climb up the otherside and get great footage of Jason descending, though I needed spotting back down. I spotted a few bits of rock to rig a traverse if we wanted avoiding the waterfall, though you have to pass through another.
Onto the traverse, I rigged this. It was a lot further down the stream then I remembered. Once rigging the hardest bit is climbing up there, the rest is quite easy to rig as you can reach each bolt from the last without abseiling. The thread at the corner is optional as literally (thought out of sight) just up and to the left by less than a foot is another P-anchor.
We then entered gavel (the rope hanging down was handy to finish the traverse as I could just put my jammers on it). Arlan took up rigging and chose the high route (low route has an insitu rope on it). We also rigged the climb down and entered the lower streamway that was far better decorated than I remembered. We entered Gusford's chambers and the others were reluctant to follow until my echoy singing enticed them through. Lots of photos.
Finally we went downstream to the difficult climb (just before the pitches) and then back up a decorated inlet. We exited with Arlan de-rigging up to the end of the traverse, where he and Rob exited Gavel. Me and Jason carried on through short drop de-rigging the pitch as we went. We only had one bag as we gave the other two the rest.
